Situated in the gulf of Thailand Phu Quoc has arguably not only some of the best beaches Vietnam has to offer but is the only island in the country that faces west for that magnificent sunset!
As a friendly warning please leave your valuables safely at your Hotel and/or take good care when visiting isolated beaches to avoid any possible theft!
Cua Can Beach
Located on the west coast approximately 10km north of Duong Dong town and just near the village of Cua Can lies this deserted beautiful beach and beautiful estuary, one of my favourites!
Dai Beach
On the north west coast lies this beautiful stretch (approx 4km) of deserted pristine beach to get lost on, check it out now while it’s still untouched!
Ganh Dau Beach
At the top of the island on the north west side lies the quiet and peaceful area of Ganh Dau, just after the village turn left and you’ll find a small deserted local beach too cool off.
Kem Beach
One of the most beautiful beaches on the island, getting to there is a bit tricky but worth it, to get there either walk along the beach at low tide or take the short trip by boat from Sao Beach.
Long Beach As the name suggests this is the longest beach and on the west side of the island where most of the Hotels and Resorts are located. If you explore you this beach you will find some parts totally deserted and to yourself, while other parts in the main Tourist area are full of Restaurants, Bars & Cafes.
Sao Beach
The south east bottom of Phu Quoc is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island if not all of Vietnam, with plans for massive development this beach is a must to visit right now!
Vung Bau Beach
Located on the north west coast just past the town of Cua Can lies this beautiful half moon beach, If you’re looking for some snorkeling there’s many small boats around there that will take you out to nearby Turtle island.
An Thoi Islands
Off the southern tip of Phu Quoc (30 minutes by boat from An Thoi) is the An Thoi archipelago of 15 islands which are abound with scenic deserted beaches, colorful coral reefs and colonies of diverse fish species.

Sunset on Long Beach
Take a position anywhere along this beautiful stretch of beach and look to the west for the best sunset in Vietnam!
Beachside dining at Bai Sao
Perhaps one of the better beaches in Vietnam, this place still boasts a fairly basic existence and is an essential trip when visiting this Island. Enjoy fresh seafood, swim or just laze the day away; this is a perfect place to do it!
Diving or Snorkeling the reefs
Though the best time of the year is generally from November to April, anytime when the sun out and the sea is calm is a great time to hit the water to enjoy its natural tranquility along with some great diving & snorkeling.
Visit the famous Cao Dai temple of Phu Quoc
Believe it or not the foundation of Cao Dai religion was right here in Phu Quoc, it was here that reputedly the third eye was seen in a vision! This beautiful new temple was only built in 2008 using monies donated; it is well worth a visit to enjoy the spectacular architecture, paintings and tranquility it offers. Be sure to go upstairs and on the way out feel free to make a donation to help maintain this beautiful place.
Experiencing a Pepper farm
The Pepper from Phu Quoc is reputedly one of the worlds finest and a visit to any one of the farms on the Island is well worth it even if only to stock up on some tasty inexpensive black or white pepper to take home!
Visit the local town market
In the center of town beside the Duong Dong river is the Town market, this is a great place to experience the daily life of the locals and see many interesting fruits, vegetables, meats & seafood. Best time to visit is the early mornings from 6am to Midday
Forest walk in the north
Approx. 5km east from Ganh Dau on the right hand side of the road look for a sign and a path opening to enter the forest. This path goes for some kms so its recommended a 1km walk in will be enough to enjoy the beautiful virgin forest, keep your eye out for the many birds and animals of the forest.
Sunrise at Su Muong Pagoda
Though Sunrise is the best time, anytime really is a good time to visit this old Mountain Pagoda. For a special visit proceed to the back of the property to the right hand side of the existing Pagoda following the path up to the old pagoda, go up to the first level for some prayer and enjoy spectacular views!
Mountain waterfalls
Though the best time of the year for bathing at these places is generally from May to September, anytime with reasonable weather is a good time to enjoy a picnic or a stroll through the forest.
Adventurous ride around the north east
For experienced riders only but for those who do take the trip its well worth the efforts especially in the dry season.
Follow the road from Bai Thom to Ham Ninh where it boasts sea views to the left and stunning mountain scenery to the right side, this is a great day trip. In or after heavy rain its not recommended to take this road, can be very steep in places & slippery!
